So I broke my mustache bar, I fixed it. Now I have a vibration at about 70mph and above, like a small rumble strip. I have heard of such a rumble on series 1 cars and then they fixed it with my early series 2. I will have to investigate.

Questions:
1. What's a 'stache bar?
2. What kind of car are we talking about? Year, make, model.
3. How did you break it? That seems like a pretty heavy chunk of bar to break and doesn't really look corroded or rusty.

A mustache bar looks to be a sort of rear sub-frame brace:

An early 72' 240Z. After the series 1 had issues they moved the rear end 2 inches or so and added some things, including a rear mustache bar which is a kind of flexible stabilizer attached to the whole rear end. Its a sprung steel bar which makes it flexible but also sort of a solid bar, its both. Kind of rare for them to break but its pretty much the only original consumable part under the car. It clearly broke in the weakest point where the left bolt is. I thought something much worse happened! The tranny is a newly rebuilt 5 speed from a later Z so I was worried about that. So I'm still unsure why there is this vibration, all the bushings etc. are poly and replaced. I'll have to poke around.

I don't know how many 240z are around, you seem excited.

Yeah even in the Bay Area I usually only see a 260 or 280 here and there. I know all the 240s in my area. I think a lot were put outside as a project and rusted beyond repair. I fixed a few spots on my car. The rear light panel is all sealed up with miracle paint and fiberglass, I have the replacement metal panel but I won't do that until I repaint the car someday. The bottom of my right front fender isn't great but its just a fender and easily replaced so thats on the repaint list. I just rebuilt the motor, triple carbs and a rebuilt 5 speed. That mustache bar was the only thing original under there I think, took care of that but it was a strange feeling!
